About Blepharoplasty in London

Eyelid surgery is effective for improving vision due to sagging skin obstructing the eye. It can also serve as a cosmetic procedure; in removing excess skin from the eyes, the ‘droopy eye’ appearance will no longer render the face tired-looking, resulting in a more youthful facial aesthetic overall. Not only does treatment lift the eye lid area, fine lines, wrinkles and under-eye bags hollow circles diminish.

The Process

The process will differ slightly depending on whether you are having upper or lower eyelid surgery.

Upper eyelid surgery:

  • Local anaesthetic.

  • Incision created in the crease area above the eyelashes.

  • Small sutures are used to close the incision.

Lower eyelid surgery

  • Local anaesthetic.

  • Incision made from the outer part of the eyelashes.

  • The overlapping ‘drooping’ skin is removed during the procedure.

  • Small sutures are used to close the incision.

The Outcome

Post-treatment, your eye area will appear less fatigued, and therefore more youthful. The procedure can also help to improve your peripheral vision. Many of Dr Samir’s patients also report a significant increase in confidence post-treatment.

Any visible scars that are present after surgery will fade overtime.

FAQs

How Long Do The Effects Of Blepharoplasty Last?

The average duration of treatment is between 5 and 10 years. Factors such as genetics, sun exposure and your personal skin care routine will determine how long treatment lasts for.

How Long Is The Recovery Period?

Blepharoplasty is a day procedure, so you can go home on the day of your treatment, a few hours after your surgery. Some bruising and inflammation is normal post-treatment, though this should subside within 10 days. The majority of patients return to work 7-10 days after upper eyelid surgery. Upper eyelid surgery requires a longer recovery period of approximately 2 weeks.

Is There a Minimum Age For Having Blepharoplasty?

Drooping skin in the eye area is most commonly associated with ageing, so it’s most suitable when collagen and hyaluronic levels start to reduce. This can begin during your late 20s and early 30s.

Some individuals are genetically predisposed to eye bags, and/or have excess skin in the eye area. We may recommend treatment in this case.
